A Local Landmark Along the Parkway
Mabry Mill
Mabry Mill, located at Milepost 176 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, is one of the most photographed and visited landmarks along the route. The site features a working gristmill, sawmill, and blacksmith shop, offering a look at traditional Appalachian crafts and daily life. Set alongside a small pond and surrounded by the mountains, it is a simple, well-preserved piece of the area’s history.
The materials and setting at Mabry Mill have influenced one of our room designs. That space reflects the wood tones, textures, and quiet character found at the mill, bringing elements of the Parkway back into the stay.
It is an easy stop from the inn and a natural place to spend time while exploring the area.
The famous hump
Buffalo Mountain
Buffalo Mountain rises to 3,971 feet and is the highest point in Floyd County. Its distinct shape, resembling the back of a buffalo, has long served as a landmark for the surrounding area and remains a familiar presence on the horizon.
Today, it is a protected natural area preserve and a favorite local hiking spot, known for its quiet trails and wide views. Many visitors head up early in the morning or later in the evening, when sunrise and sunset from the mountain offer some of the best views in the area.
The mountain has also influenced one of our room designs. That space reflects the tones, textures, and steady presence of Buffalo Mountain, bringing a sense of the landscape into the stay.
